Und wie das den Nagel auf den Kopf trifft. Genau wie das, wie ich finde:

"I honestly don't claim to know him well. That's really why I'm here. That's part of the fascination, not knowing. If one knew, if one could explain in a few sentences who this character is and what makes him tick, it would be - one would feel sort of glib, and it would feel two-dimensional. He's as enigmatic to me as I hope he is to some members of the audience. The truth is I don't really know myself, either, but that's a whole other - you don't want to hear about that."

    wow!
    ich diesen Thread
    prima Idee

Portraying someone else is, after all, the point of acting. Or at least where Laurie comes from. "In Britain, the tradition involves creating a character that isn't like you," he says. "In America, there's more imagining, how I would react if this thing happened to me. So often here, one gets cast for who you are rather than who you can become."

    Hugh Laurie
    The Envelope, Juni 2007
"As a real person, he wouldn't last a minute, would he?" Laurie says. "But drama is about imperfection. And we've moved away from the aspirational hero. We got tired of it, it was dull. If I was House's friend, I would hate it. How he so resolutely refuses to be happy or take the kind-hearted road. But we don't always like morally good people, do we?

Hier was aus den Specials der DVD-Box (Staffel 2):

"It seems like everything we give him to do, like "have a cold", he takes and then uses it in every scene to either make it funnier, or... usually make it funnier."

"He is a complicated fellow, and really quite special."

    Ben Elton über Hugh Laurie
    Datum unbekannt, Quelle: www.hughlaurie.co.uk
"I am going to form a jazz trio along the lines of a Ramsey Lewis or Herbie Hancock kind of thing. I'm gonna find some regular gigs and we'll play a very groovy set. If girls in tight-fitting cocktail dresses want to drape themselves over the piano, that's fine, but the music's the thing. That's one of the few things I'm sure about. I know, I just know, that will make me immensely happy."

Gifto's [Hugh Laurie's] self-deprecation is a complicated thing. Yes, he has extraordinarily high standards, of which he thinks he falls short. But the self-deprecation is also designed to make lesser talents (us) feel better. We may not have his abilities, but nor do we have his pain.

Pain, like a loyal bloodhound, follows Hugh Laurie around... But it's not all doom and gloom with Hugh. I'd put it at about 87 percent. To see him playing boogie-woogie-piano, in a hat, accompanied by his son Bill on the saxophone, is a vision of unsullied happiness.

Diesem Thread mal wieder etwas hinzufüg...

"I'm massively late on producing a second novel, which is only about halfway there. I don't know what I'll do next. There's been no heightened interest in England - and I didn't expect it. They might think even less of me, if that's possible. I'm the bloke who minced around on American TV. I still have a yen to open a bar and play the piano. Perhaps in Lisbon. I've never been there, but I like the sound of it."

"I wouldn't say [my father] was uptight, but upright and pathologically shy. I suppose I get a lot of my character from him - also my mother. Humility was the quality she admired above all. Comfort was the work of the devil. Dad wasn't joyless. He had a strapping Presbyterian heartiness. My mother took it even further. She was a complicated personality and we had our good times and bad."

"Being recognized in the supermarket is absolutely hellish and not why I went into the business."

"I was about 18. I nabbed this chap on Kensington Church Street. He was running out of a leather-goods shop, loaded with stuff, and I brought him down to the pavement, held him there till the police arrived. You can't get much more creepy."

    Hugh Laurie

"What I'd really love to do, my biggest fantasy, is having a jazz trio and playing in the Starlight Lounge of provincial hotels. You see I say that and you're probably thinking, 'Oh, he's having me on here,' but that is actually what I'd really love to do. Have a little dinner-jacketed jazz trio - the Hugh Laurie Five - and there would be just three of us."

    Hugh Laurie
Simon Mayo Radio Show, BBC Radio 1, 1997
"There's nothing Hugh can't do as we now know from House. He's a superb actor and he decided to be good looking which I thought was a rather cheap and obvious thing to be. Actors make their own choices and he decided to be handsome. I think my decision was rather more interesting, but still?"

Hach, ich liebe das letzte Zitat von Stephen

"I don't know how actors do it. I was spellbound watching "Coronation Street" when Don and Ivy were close to splitting up. I'm amazed by actors who can cry. I'd have to get a stuntman to do the emotional stuff. But I'd be perfectly happy to do the car crashes myself."
