Wie recht du hast, Stephie... Da fällt mir gerade eine Szene aus seinem Interview bei 'The Flight of the Phoenix' ein... Da sagt er doch tatsächlich:
Klassische massive Untertreibung, oder ?"I'm just a simple actor, learning lines and speaking them."

Wir können ihm gar nichts glauben, Kinofreak, wie auch dieses Zitat beweist:
"Filming 'All or Nothing at All' has whetted my appetite for serious drama, but making people laugh is what I've always wanted to do. Besides, I don't think I'll ever see myself as a proper actor - or escape the feeling that so many people out there can do it better than I can."

"Hugh and I got along immediately. I met him outside the elevator in Vancouver, where we shot the pilot. We had dinner, and I couldn't decide who was more miserable,'' Leonard said with a laugh. "We both vie for that position on the set. Who can be the most miserable and self-deprecating? I get him entirely. There have been actors I've met in the past that I've had to kind of create a relationship with, but Hugh isn't one of them."
Robert Sean Leonard
Boston HeraldShe said that Hugh Laurie, who plays the lead role in "House", is nothing like the cantankerous character he plays. "In one scene when he was talking to me, he came out wearing a clown nose. It was so hard not to laugh. He is so serious, and then he came out wearing that clown nose. He is hilarious in real life."

"I'm hugely surprised House survives. The odds are stacked against you in this competitive business; wolves snap at your heals. It's hard to say if I'm pleased with the show. I don't watch regularly. I avert my eyes when my children have it on. I hate seeing myself, but it's even worse hearing my American accent. I had no idea I sounded so retarded, a dull monotone, full of clunking mistakes."
Hugh Laurie
Radio Times, 15.-21. März 2008"I massively question my ability as an actor. I'm aware that what success I have is because I'm playing a fantastic character with brilliant scripts. I'm like a racing driver with the fastest car. That doesn't make me a good driver, but I have a head start."
Hugh Laurie
Radio Times, 15.-21. März 2008"I'm no good as myself. I don't hugely like me. I'm still waiting, at 48, for that to change. Perhaps it will."

"I don't watch the show, or read reviews, nor meet many people I'm not working with. I hear, vaguely, we're doing all right [16 million viewers in the US], but I don't know enough to be embarrassed, or proud. I get on with it. It's, umm, very exciting."

Radio Times, 2005"Americans have become less insular in the past 20 years. Gradually they've become happy to embrace foreigners, for whatever reason. But there's a significant difference between British and American writers. Americans believe in the heroic, and try to write better, more optimistic, versions of themselves, but apart from James Bond, or perhaps Harry Potter, British writers don't."

"I'm not sure if people had a perception of me. But if they did, it was a genial idiot in Britain. Now it's an acerbic ...... in America. In Finland I'm just about right."
Hugh Laurie
Total TV Guide, 15.-21. März 2008"I like his bad qualities as much as his good. I like his dishonesty as much as his honesty. In spite of all his moroseness, cynism and cruelty, I think House is for life - the preservation of it and the living of it."
Hugh Laurie über House
Total TV Guide, 15.-21. März 2008"I find it hard to get my head round the medical stuff. But then I'm playing someone who's taken a quarter of a century to amass his store of knowledge. Fortunately, I've spent the last quarter of a century learning how to fake things."
Hugh Laurie
Total TV Guide, 15.-21. März 2008"I don't know if playing House has opened doors - perhaps left the odd lavatory window unlocked... But now I don't have to explain myself. Instead of having to sweat and charm and tap-dance before casting directors reject me, now they can do it over the phone - so much easier."
Hugh Laurie
Total TV Guide, 15.-21. März 2008"After 20-odd years of working together, to wind up 8000 miles away from where we started, in two trailers only 50 yards apart was a strange and enjoyable thing."

"I had ambitions of opening the batting for England, climbing Kilimanjaro. I assumed there was plenty of time, but now the clocks have gone forward and I'm late, stuck because all my fantasies were based on the achievements of younger men like David Gower. I have no older role models. I don't want to become home secretary or conduct the Philharmonic. Who would I be now as an actor, father, husband, writer? I don't know. And that's tragic. This realisation should have happened when I was 35, but being rather dim I didn't perceive it until six months ago."

About if he likes giving interviews
"No, but who would? Obviously, you're in a very vulnerable position. You are putting your testicles out on a chopping board. Well, not a chopping board, that's not a good image. I get anxious about a lot of things, that's the trouble. I get anxious about everything. I just can't stop thinking about things all the time. And here's the really destructive part: it's always retrospective. I waste time thinking of what I should have said or done. I go through an experience like this and think, 'Next time I'm not going to mention the shrink', but I don't learn anything."
About his educational background
"I went to a very posh school with some very posh people, but I'm not especially posh myself."
Hugh Laurie
The Times, 29. März 2008"One of Laurie's most attractive traits is that, while he may play Rachmaninov and quote philosophy, he has the self-confidence to judge more popular culture on its merits. It's rare to meet someone who isn't some type of snob, traditional or inverted, but Laurie, like Gregory House, is his own man."
"He seems to be a man who thinks about life with a clear mind and has developed the capacity, and the curse, of being able to identify both sides of an issue."
